I’ve been doing some international audio sightseeing at the BBC. The highlight was the room where they recorded the radio plays. They have moving sets that simulate different auditory environments. For example they have walls you can move about that are hard on one side and soft on the other side to create different rooms. They have steps with different surfaces for people to walk on - wood, metal, stone. They have a semi-anechoic chamber to record scenes that are set outdoors. They also have various props for Foley such as a stick with rubber gloves attached to it that simulates the sound of birds flapping their wings. Very cool.
